human brain showing pathways that hold traumatic memories

Maybe you’ve been to therapy before and have gained some helpful coping skills and insight to try and feel better, but nothing seems to be sticking.  You’re still feeling anxious, depressed, hopeless, overwhelmed, helpless, and defeated.

What if you could release the pain you’ve been carrying and finally start living without it?

Sometimes, talking about the past isn’t enough to heal from it.  EMDR therapy goes beyond traditional talk therapy.  It targets the root of painful memories, allowing you to heal without reliving the trauma.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is a structured therapy aimed at helping people in recovering from traumatic events. After any traumatic event the images thoughts, and emotions can remain.  These can create ‘overwhelm’, or being back in that moment where you may feel “frozen in time”.

EMDR Therapy helps you process these memories with bilateral stimulation (often eye movement) and allows normal healing to occur.  It helps your brain to recognize that an event is in the past rather than still occurring in the present.

How is EMDR different from traditional talk therapy?

During EMDR, you do not have to talk directly about the negative event or trauma to get resolution.  EMDR therapy allows the brain to resume its natural healing process rather than focusing on changing the emotions thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue.

It encourages you to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotional intensity associated with the trauma memories.

As with any type of therapy, it is essential that EMDR be done with a clinician who has been properly trained and is specialized in this modality. Esha has completed intensive, EMDRIA approved training and is committed to utilizing EMDR to support her clients in gaining a greater sense of peace, safety and connection in their lives.
